The Origin of the Name PuPla
PuPla stands for Puerto Plata – the place where the foundation of the manufactory was laid.
When Hermann Osele and his wife Olga founded PuPla Cigars in 2007, they were living in Puerto Plata, in the north of the Dominican Republic. The name reflects this origin in a deliberate and reduced form.
“PU” represents Puerto,
“PLA” stands for Plata.
PuPla is not a symbol or a narrative construction. It is a factual reference to the place where the philosophy and the work began.

The Story of PuPla Cigars
A Journey Shaped by Consequence
When Hermann Osele and his wife Olga founded PuPla Cigars in 2007, they were living in Puerto Plata, in the north of the Dominican Republic. Surrounded by fertile land, traditional tobacco farms, and a deeply rooted cigar culture, a clear intention emerged: to create cigars without compromise.
From the outset, PuPla was never conceived as a volume-driven brand.
The focus lay elsewhere — in understanding cigars at their core: their structure, their development over time, and the factors that determine consistency and balance.
This pursuit led to the creation of the Osele Method.
A proprietary approach that unites defined processes with craftsmanship, allowing precision and passion to coexist without contradiction.
Every PuPla cigar is shaped by patience and discipline. Decisions regarding tobacco, composition, and aging are made with long-term stability in mind, not short-term effect.
Today, the PuPla manufactory is located in Yasica, a district within Puerto Plata.
The name PuPla remains a deliberate reminder of these origins — and of a journey defined by experience, structure, and an uncompromising commitment to the art of cigar making.

A shared moment.
Time, conversation, and cigars.
